June 29th

It is another beautiful summer morning!  The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the are smells like flowers.

It is a 3 holiday day today!  Are you ready to celebrate?

I like the first one. Camera Day! I love having a camera at hand all the time!  In November of every year, I compile all the best pictures of my kids from the whole year and create a photobook with my publisher. I make 8 copies and that becomes our Christmas gift for the family.  My camera is always in my purse, because every minute of the day has the opportunity to be a photo moment.

Next is Hug Holiday.  Earlier this month there was a "hug your cat day" but today is open to anyone!!  I have already hugged both of my kids, my husband and my dog today.....who have you hugged?

And finally, we celebrate the waffle iron today, for it is Waffle Iron Day. I love waffles, but I don't often drag out the waffle iron to make them (it's a lot easier to just do pancakes.) I do have some frozen waffles in the freezer, perhaps I will pop those in the toaster and pretend it is a waffle iron....does that count?

June 28th

Born and Raised in the northern part of the US, I defintaly know who Paul Bunyan is, so today it was fun to learn that June 28th is Paul Bunyan Day!.

If you have lived in a cave all your life, and don't know who he is, let me tell you!

Paul Bunyan is a legend of a giant lumberjack. He was credited with the develeopment and settling of the Northern logging states.  He had a giant blue ox named Babe. By legend Paul created the Great Lakes as a watering hole for Babe.  Paul logged and cleared the entire states of North and South Dakota for farming. And Babes giant footprints left behind are now what we call the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota.
One story I alway remember was that when the people would make Pauls pancakes in a giant iron skillet, they would put huge blocks of butter on their feet and skate around the pan in order to grease it.

For some reason, the weather around here doesn't want to work with the holidays.  So today on Sunglasses Day, it is overcast.

I hope it is sunny where you are, and if it is, remember to wear your sunglasses to protect your eyes!

Even tho there is only one holiday today, it is actually a pretty big celeb birthday date.

Bridesmaids Purse Set

My brothers wedding is coming up fast. 5 weeks away fast. And for the last month I have been working hard on a very special project.  I have only one sibling. John and I are 5 years apart, but we are close. His fiance, Rachele, has 6 siblings. All of which are in the bridal party!  So adding up all the guys, and all the girls there are 14 members of the bridal party. 14!

When Rachele asked me to be her Matron of Honor, I was so excited, and I knew right away that I wanted to do something special.

I have a purse pattern that I have used a couple times for myself last summer, and decided that I wanted to use it to make a purse for each of the girls!  The Fat Quarters Bag by Melly and Me.

Including myself, that is 8 purses.  So I went to Joann's and picked out the fabrics. The bag has the opportunity for 3 different colors/patterns. The colors of the wedding are cornflower blue and tangerine orange. So I found some cute prints in those colors and a solid white.

The orange print was pretty spendy, and I knew I couldn't do all 8 bags with it, but I was in love with the color and the bold print, so I had to make it work. I decided to "color code" the bridesmaids.

First the bride herself and her two sisters. Sarah is her older sister, who I have met one time about two years ago during John and Rachele's college graduation at TVCC.  I am really excited to see her again in just a few weeks.  April is her younger sister, and will be a Jr. Bridesmaid.

The three of them have a white base with the blue and orange as details.

Next we have three of Rachele's friends from school. I have not met any of them, but look forward to seeing them.  Andrea, Kelsey and Emily.

The three of them have the blue base with white and orange details.

Finally, there is myself and Maura. We are grouped together as the sisters-in-law. Maura is married to Rachele's brother Devan.

We get the orange base (my fav) with white and blue details.

Oh but I'm not done yet...I filled the bags with all the goodies that they might need while in town for the wedding weekend.

Things included are:
Tissues - Sun Screen - Organic Bug Spray - Hair Spray - Mouthwash - Lotion- Hand Sanitizer - Nail File - Mini Lint Roller - Band aides - Chap Stick - Tylenol - Shout Wipes - Floss - Cough Drops- Bobby Pins - Safety Pins - Protein Bar - 5 Hour Energy

I tucked them into plastic pouches and put them in each bag. Now they are off to Rachele who will complete the weekends itinerary to include. As well as a list of each other's cell phone numbers.  Then as she picks up her friends and family at the airport, they will be welcomed with the bag!

June 25th

Good Morning!  I slept in a little extra longer this morning. I couldn't help it when my children were snuggled under my blanket and still snoring.  When we finally got up and going, we got everyone ready for church and I have an extra few minutes to share todays holidays.

There are 2 today.

The first will be Log Cabin Day. The Log Cabin Society, founded by Virginia Handy, and the Bad Axe Historical Society, in Michigan created the annual Log Cabin Day on June 25, 1986. Their objectives included promoting the preservation of Log Cabins, and awareness and education of life during the era in America when log cabins were common.

Growing up in the Pacific North West, I have seen my share of cabins. And I love them. Renting a cabin for the weekend is my kind of "camping". LOL.

And the second is National Catfish Day.

Well, that isn't really what I was talking about...but it was so cute I couldn't pass it up!

On June 25, 1987, President Ronald Reagan began a presidential proclamation with the words "More and more Americans are discovering a uniquely American food delicacy — farm-raised catfish."

Now, I have never seen a catfish in real life, and I have never eaten one....I don't think its on my menu any time soon...

June 24th

Hello Hello!

Once again, the weather in my area is not cooporating with the holidays very well. Today's forcast shows a high of 71 degrees today, and for me that is a little bit cool for Swim A Lap Day. Maybe at the indoor pool, but definatly not at the aquatic center outdoor park!

But if it is warm where you are, jump in a swim around!  Its great way to stay active and be healthy!

June 23rd

Today is going to be a fantastic day!  A summer time thunder storm is due to roll through town today, and I just love a summer storm.

And there are three different holidays to celebrate today!

First on the list is Columnist Day. Today was established on April 18th, in memory of the day columnist Ernie Pyle was killed in World War II.

Finding something on Etsy for Ernie Pyle was a little difficult, I decided to share something for my favorite TV columnist, Carrie!

Next is Take Your Dog To Work Day. I WISH I could take my dog to work with me! She is such a good dog, I know she would love all the attention, but then again...it would be boring to sit at my desk all day long.  My mother takes one of her dogs to work with her every day. Gizmo is a member of the team at the chiropractic office. The clients bring him special treats and toys all the time, and are always a little upset when he doesn't come to work.

And last but not least, National Pink Day!  Pink has been my favorite color since I was 3 years old. I am a pink girl through and through!  I love it so much I decided to make a whole treasury of pink!

So put on something pink and enjoy the day!

Finally!  It is officially The First Day of Summer!!!!!! And to celebrate a finally blue sky, sunny, summer day, my little family is having lunch at the park with my in-laws.  I had a booth at the Sun Festival on Saturday, and it rained the entire day. But this weeks forcast makes it all okay...Sun All Week!  I love it!

Maybe we will have to plan a trip to the water park this weekend!

Today is also Go Skate Day.

Goodness, it has been a long time since I have had my feet in skates!  In Jr. High my friends and I spend every single Friday and Saturday night at the Roll-a-way. And in college my best friend and I got up and in-line skated on the levy every morning before classes, but since then....I would probably fall flat on my bum!

June 20th

I love scenes from the 50's, of soda shops, soda jerks and the girls in felt skirts sipping on their ice cream sodas and flirting with boys.  I grew up around classic cars, drive in's and a strong appreciation for the era. So today to celebrate Ice Cream Soda Day I found this fantastic item on Etsy

Happy Fathers Day!  Yes, today is Father's Day, and our morning started of with some giggles

As usual, Ayden is the first one in the house to wake up, he crawls in bed and tells me he is hungry. Just like every other morning.  Well last night, while I was tucking him into bed I told him to come in and tell daddy Happy Father's Day...but its a secret until morning. So this morning he comes in, and tells me he was some Lucky Charms.  I reminded him to tell daddy something, and he whispers to me "mom! its a secret!"

Angel woke up and we all snuggled in bed for a bit talking about what we should have for breakfast. Nathan said "Ayden, you should make me waffles for Fathers Day" Ayden sits there for a second, I could see the wheels turning in his head..then he responds with "I can't reach the toaster."

HA HA, hashbrowns it is!

Happy Fathers day to my dad Ron, my husband Nathan and my father in law Randy!

Along with fathers day, it is World Sauntering Day. WHAT? I know!  but I learned a little something about it: This day was created in the 1970's by W. T. Rabe at Mackinac Island, Michigan while he was the Public Relations Director for a hotel on the island. Rabe was well known for his publicity stunts.

So, I guess you should saunter here and there, what is sauntering? Well, Sauntering is a verb to describe a style of walking; it is not a sashay, prance, trot, or lollygag. Simply it is to walk slowly preferably with a joyful disposition

So happy June 19th everyone!

June 18th

Good Morning!  Today is a full day!  We have lots of holidays to celebrate, so lets get crackin'

First on the list is Go Fishing Day. I, personally, not a fisher, but my husbands grandfather is on the water bright and early every morning. I just don't have the patience for it. I need to catch something in the first 30 seconds I cast, or I'm done.

Next we have International Panic Day.  I don't know why there would be a holiday dedicated to panic, but I guess if you are going to worry about something, today is your only day to do it!

National Hollerin' Contest Day. Held in Spivey's Corner, North Carolina. The largest hollerin' contest of the year., attracts 5,000-10,000 people to the 50 person town.

Today is also National Spluge Day. (Is this were the panic comes in?)  Today is perfect because I have a booth at the Sun Festival in Pioneer Park.  So come down and splurge at my booth!  (if you aren't local, go splurge in my Etsy shop!)

And finally we come to World Jugglers Day. Alas, I can't juggle, my brain can't even figure it out. I will have to leave this one to you talented folk out there.

Vegetables are pretty important! They have two holidays right in a row! Today is Eat Your Vegetables Day and I love it!

I am so fortunate to have kids who love their veggies. Ayden will choose broccoli over anything else, and you can't feed Angel enough green beans!  Maybe tonight we will have some grilled veggies with potatoes!  YUM!

Ice Cream Social Birthday Party

In April we celebrated Angelinna's 7th Birthday. Seven Years Old! I can't believe it!  I decided to have a fancy ice cream party!

I started with her outfit. I used this skirt pattern, with my own variation and also a pettikskirt underneath to make it fluff out nicely.

then I started thinking about toppings. Using my glass serving pieces, I created a turnable tower of treats for each table.

Then I made covers for the ice cream containers. We had classic chocolate, vanilla and stawberry.

I made a few finger foods

And other goodies

And of course a cake!

then we opened gifts and play "put the cherry on the ice cream"
I made it all out of felt, and put little velcro pieces on red puff balls. I made the blindfold out of felt also, on an elastic strap for easy sharing.

The party was an overall success! We had tons of fun and made lots of memories!

Ice Cream Shop Outing

Last Tuesday we finally had a nice warm day, so we took a family outing to a place called Spot On Yogurt. Its a really neat frozen yogurt shop, where you make all the choices!  You serve it up yourself and choose from tons of different toppings, then you put your ice cream cup on the scale, and you pay 39 cents an ounce!  We had so much fun!

We started by choosing the ice cream...

Then we looked at all the yummy toppings and picked our favorites.

Ayden had chocolate yogurt with frosted animal cookies, fruit loops, and chocolate sauce

Angel had vanilla yogurt with gummy bears and mini m&m's.

Then we took it outside on the patio and enjoyed our custom desserts in the sunshine!

Angelinna used her spoon the whole time! Its on the therapy exercise list, so I think we will be making more trips to Spot On this summer to practice using her spoon!

Three cheers for Spot On Yogurt!  Thanks for a fun family day!
