September 10th

The holiday that I am going to share today..I'm pretty sure we celebrated in the spring already, but it's such a great holiday that I am not going to argue with the calandar!

To go along with National Sewing Month today is National Sewing Machine Day!  I love love love my machine, it's like my baby.  Have you hugged your sewing machine today?

Also today is Swamp Ideas Day. What the heck is that, you ask?  Well it means to brainstorm your ideas with someone else. "swamp" your ideas together to help you come up with something great. I had never heard that term before today...but sharing ideas with others is a great way to come up with new ones! It seems that nobody on Etsy has heard of swamp ideas either...so I did a little search for brainstorm instead

Happy Teddy Bear Day!  I love teddy bears, for a while my mom and I collected them.  My favorite bear is "Big Bear" he is a large teddy bear I got from my dad for my second birthday. Of all the animals that have come and gone from my animal net, big bear will always be around.

September 7th

Today is neither rain nor snow day.  what? you ask...it's nothing to do with the weather. It actually celebrates the first day the New York post office opened in 1914.

You know the saying: ...And neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, nor the winds of change, nor a nation challenged, will stay us from the swift completion of our appointed rounds.

September 6th

Well friends, I took the weekend away from my studio to enjoy the long weekend with my family. So I got a little behind on the holidays....lets catch up:

September 3rd: Skyscraper Day
September 4th: Newspaper Carrier Day
September 5th: Be Late for Something Day
                        Cheese Pizza Day
                        Labor Day

And now today!  The 6th is Read a Book Day!

I am not a big reader, it takes me forever to finish any book I start, and there are several books sitting around my house that have been started but never finished.

I do however, have a new book The Queens Fool and I am really excited to get it started since I loved The Other Boleyn Girl.(which I did finish!)

September 2nd

Todays holiday is a little bit creepy ....and I wasn't even sure if I wanted to count it as an actual holiday. And I don't know if I want to say "happy...day" or say that I am celebrating it....but even so, it is National Beheading Day.

yeah, I told it was kind of creepy....but it kind of fit into my current reading...I just finished The Other Boleyn Girl, about King Henry and his second wife Anne Boleyn...who was beheaded along with several others.  And I am starting the second book to that called The Queens Fool, I hope it is as good as the first one!

So ....here's to Queen Anne....kind of.

Today is a day to celebrate health with More Herbs Less Salt Day. Another holiday created by wellcat.com, now is the time to pick those fresh herbs from the garden and eat healthy.

Unfortunately all of my basil and mint is already finished for the year....but maybe I'll stop by the produce store and pick up some fresh rosemary for rosemary raspberry chicken tonight.

August 27th & 28th

I didn't post yesterday because I was celebrating my birthday! And lucky me I get to keep celebrating this evening with my family!  But enough of me...lets get to the holidays!

Yesterday the 27th was Just Because Day. I hope you did something  nice "just because" yesterday :)

Today, the 28th , is Race Your Mouse Day. my first thought was the poor mouse I found in the mouse trap this morning...

But that's not what this holiday is about. The people at Wellcat.com created this holiday. When you are waiting for a program to load on your computer, you can race your mouse around the icons on your desktop. You know that thing we all do, the impatient circles we make with the mouse ...that. Do it today.

Well folks, that's it for the weekend!  I need to get my bum into my studio and fill these orders!

Happy National Dog Day!!!  I love dogs! I have been around animals from the day I was born. We had so many family dogs growing up....Missy, Penny, Lucky, Buck, Abby, Josey, Sophie  I think that's all of them. The first dog that was mine was Dexter. He was one of Abby's babies, and the best dog I ever had. Then I also had his brother Colby. They both died right after Angel was born. Then there was a short period when I owned a neurotic shih tzu names Leo. After his crazy trip through the neighborhood that didn't end well....I got my Miniature Austrailian Shepherd Grace. She is amazing and I love her so much!

Also today is Womens Equality Day:
In 1971, after much work, and at the urging of U.S. Representative Bella Abzug (D-NY), Congress designated August 26 each year as“Women’s Equality Day.” This day was selected to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 26, 1920. This amendment granted women the right to vote.  This was the culmination of decades of effort by women suffragettes and other groups.  Their efforts dated back to first women’s rights convention in 1848 at Seneca Falls, New York.

August 24th

Good Morning and Happy Vesuvius Day... well I don't know that it's a "happy" holiday..it's more of a commemorating day. Vesuvius Day marks the date in 79 A.D. that Mount Vesuvius exploded.

August 24, 79 A.D. was an historic date for the world. This was the day that Mount Vesuvius erupted in a huge explosion. It was one of the largest volcanic explosions in recorded history.

This deadly volcano destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae. They were buried by volcanic ash and pumice. An estimated 3,360 people died in the volcano's eruption.

Mount Vesuvius also exploded a second time in 1631. At that time, it killed approximately 3,500 people.

Agent P!

My son loves the cartoon Phineas and Ferb. And I must admit, I like it too. I think it is a very cute show with good and appropiate morals.

I got this pattern from my favorite animal pattern creator: funkyfriendsfactory

Using fleece in aqua and orange, I created Perry the Platypus!  also known as AGENT P!
of course, this guy is in his pet platypus mode...

i am going to enlarge the pattern, his little feet were not easy to work with so small

I just love making new animal friends!

August 23rd

As we enter into these last few weeks of summer, I have been feeling a little sad, as if this whole summer flew by so quickly that I have not gotten to do everything that I wanted to do! I seems like winter just drags on and on and the summer is over in a flash.   So today on Ride the Wind Day, I am going to take a little bit of time to enjoy todays summer breeze.

August 22nd

Good Monday Morning!  For some reason I woke up early today and have enjoyed the quiet house before anyone else got up....that didn't last long! Now that breakfast is on the table and the kids are watching Phineas and Ferb (I love that show) it's time to share with you todays holidays.

First is Be an Angel Day This day was created by Jayne Howard Feldman. She was inspired by actual angels' work in her life and wanted to encourage the world to be servants of God and be an angel to someone today.

The second holiday for August 22nd, is Tooth Fairy Day!

Angelinna doesn't like us to poke around in her mouth, even brushing her teeth is a process of singing songs and tricking her mouth to open up...so when her front teeth were loose two years ago,  she would not let me wiggle them. I would try to give them a little extra push when I was brushing them, but she wouldn't have it.  Finally they were both so loose that they were crooked, barely hanging in there!  So I gave her and apple, but she wouldn't take a bite.  I let her be and about 10 minutes later, I found a tooth in the middle of the living room floor!  I looked in her mouth, and sure enough one was out and the other was just hanging there...a couple minutes later I had a toothless grin looking at me. I loved it!  I can't wait until Ay loses his front teeth!

August 21st

On August 19, 1988, President Ronald Reagan issued Proclamation 5847 creating National Senior Citizens Day to be August 21.

So today celebrate those old folks in your life that have meant something to you!

At the risk of forgetting anyone, I won't name names, but to all my grandparents: you have each taught me something and I love you for it.

Lunch Bags!

On Wednesday my son will be starting his first day of pre-school. It's a full day program. Then one week later Angel will be starting her first day of 1st Grade...also full day!  I see lots of sewing time in my future!

Since both of the kids will be eating lunch at school, I wanted to make them some lunch bags!

I picked up the easy to follow pattern at Etsy in this shop.

I had picked up some dinosaur fabric for Ay's bag, but he wanted to use the pirate fabric that was left over from his birthday

I did his first, so when I did hers I decided that the pockets would be more useful on the inside of the pack, so I can stick a spoon or extra straw in there and it will stay clean until lunch time

The second time around I also added an extra large pocket on the back. Angel will be working on using her silverware correctly, so she will have lots of apple sauce and puddings in her lunch. I am going to put a slim package of wet wipes so her aides can get her cleaned up quickly.

I have plans to make some more bags in holiday prints so they can change it up a bit throughout the year.
But for their first days, they are both set and ready for lunch time at school!

August 19th

Today we celebrate the birthday of Orville Wright...the holiday came to be in 1939 when Franklin D. Roosevelt declared today to be National Aviation Day!

I have one cousin who has recently earned his pilots license to fly small private planes and another cousin who is finishing up flight school in the military as we speak!

I personally have only been on a plane for one trip..and that was 6 years ago. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either.   I suppose there would be a difference if I was flying first class or something!

I found this toy plane made here in the Pacific North West in Portland OR!  I always love NW crafting!
